A significant health risk associated with silane is its tendency for spontaneous combustion, which can lead to severe and potentially life-threatening burns. If flames or intense heat reaches any part of the silane cylinder before the valve, an explosion may ensue. Additionally, rapid or high-pressure silane discharge can trigger a delayed explosion. Silane leaks that do not combust immediately are extremely hazardous and should never be ignored. Personnel handling emergencies must wear suitable protective gear designed for fire safety. Never attempt to interrupt the gas supply before the flames are completely extinguished.

Silane gas is a colorless, toxic, and highly flammable vapor with a distinctly irritating garlic-like odor.
